DESCRIPTION
Blending the strength of an alpine binding with the function of a tech setup, the revolutionary and all-new 2026 ATK HY 13 Free is a freeride-ready system that delivers exceptional downhill performance without compromising uphill efficiency. Weighing 675 grams per binding, it’s purpose-built for skiers who refuse to choose between power and weight savings.
Why we like it:
The HY 13 Free feels like an alpine binding on the descent, but still climbs like a tech setup. It’s a true hybrid with an intelligently simple design that doesn’t get in the way of the skiing.
Who it's for:
Aggressive skiers and freeriders who need high retention values (6–13) and rock-solid downhill performance in a pin-compatible format that still climbs efficiently.
Highlights:
Crafted from CNC-machined 7075 aluminum, the HY 13 Free is exceptionally strong and built for years of use. The toe and heel feature a novel layout that places both boot pins flat on the ski, eliminating the traditional floating rear pin and creating a powerful alpine-like feel. A negative heel ramp angle improves uphill stride mechanics, and ski mode transitions are as simple as rotating the toe arms. The brake locks easily, by hand—no awkward pole maneuvering required. Combined with 3 levels of climbing aids and the ability to switch modes without removing skis, this binding is a standout for big-line freetourers who still want to earn their turns.
Things to consider:
At 675 grams, it’s on the heavier side for long tours or weight-conscious missions. And while it mimics alpine performance well, it doesn’t quite match the elasticity or adjustability of a true resort binding.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Offered with brake width options of 97, 108, and 120 mm. Release values are fully adjustable from 6–13. Ideal for heavier or more powerful skiers.
